How to Install Vinyl Siding Anchor Pieces

There are so many benefits to investing in vinyl siding. It is truly one of the most eco-friendly and low maintenance siding products you can invest in. Of course, it's also very popular because it can be installed by the homeowner. You don't need to be a professional contractor to handle this relatively simple installation. Vinyl siding is made with a modular design, so the pieces attach to each other without any screws or glue. However, you will need to attach the anchor pieces with screws. This article explains how the anchor pieces work, and how to install them.

The Anchor Pieces

The anchor pieces basically hold the weight of the vinyl siding. The anchor pieces need to be installed across the entire length of the wall. However, one piece can hold the weight of the entire wall, so the installation is minimal. Different systems will have slightly different measurements for how far from the top of the wall the anchor piece should be installed. To install the anchor pieces you will need a cordless power drill, a stud finder and a level. The screws should be included with your vinyl siding kit.

Installing the Anchor Pieces

The anchor pieces have pre-drilled holes the are evenly spaced to 16". This is the common distance between the center of two studs. So, the key is to line up these holes with the studs in the wall. Be thorough and try to mark on the wall where all the vertical studs are, using the stud finder. Then, drill a screw through a pre-drilled hole on one end of the anchor piece into the stud in the wall. Use the level to make sure everything is in order before screwing the other end of the anchor onto the wall. Then, drill the remaining screws through the rest of the pre-drilled holes and into the wall. When you get to the building corners you will need to cut off the excess portions of the anchor pieces. Vinyl anchors can be easily cut using a wood hacksaw. 

To streamline your installation process, you should install all of the anchor pieces in one sitting. This will make it much easier when it comes to hanging the vinyl siding pieces.

In reality, you will probably spend more time hanging the anchors than you will with the rest of the vinyl installation. Since the pieces can be secured without any more screws, the installation goes very quickly. It is a relatively simple project that you can do with a few helpers.
